Cardamom Essential Oil

Cardamom essential oil, sometimes known as cardamon essential oil, is one of the lesser known essential oils in aromatherapy.  However, cardamom is related to ginger essential oil and possesses some similiar properties.  Both the ancient Egyptians and the ancient Greeks used cardamom medicinally.  In addition, traditional Indian and Chinese Medicine have recognized the benefits of cardamom.

Niaouli Essential Oil


Niaouli essential oil is perhaps not a well known essential oil but it is in fact related to tea tree essential oil. It is an Australian essential oil which naturally has similar properties to tea tree oil.

Clary Sage Essential Oil

Clary sage essential oil is a very good oil for the ladies! It helps with a lot of problems women suffer from PMS to menopausal problems. However, clary sage essential oil shouldn't be confused with common sage essential oil which is more toxic in its actions.

Myrtle was used by the ancient Greek Dioscorides and has a lot of associations with love! Most notably it was associated with Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, and legend tells that Aphrodite hid her nakedness behind a myrtle bush! Greek brides today often carry myrtle in their bridal bouquets and even Queen Victoria of England mixed myrtle in her 1840 bridal bouquet, together with snowdrops. Vetiver Essential Oil Profile

Another of the scented grasses which produces an essential oil is vetiver - not as well known as citronella or lemongrass , vetiver is a popular plant used in ancient perfumes of India.
It is also extremely useful for problematic skin and is a gentle, non-toxic, non-sensisitizing and non-irritating essential oil due to its high chemical content of alcohols.

Lemongrass Essential Oil

Lemongrass is another lesser known essential oil but it a light and fresh essential oil with a number of uses; traditionally used in Indian Medicine for fevers and disease, it has also been used as an insect repellent - quite apt for this time of year!
It can be an irritant to those with sensitive skin so should be used with care. However, for anyone who has experience of using essential oils with animals, it is reportedly a natural way to repel fleas from dogs...
